Introducing the TV Remote Control Feature: Simplify TV Viewing with ONSCREEN

We are excited to introduce a new feature for ONSCREEN: TV Control. This feature allows caregivers to use a virtual remote control to select and switch channels on Pluto TV directly from the ONSCREEN mobile app. It helps find suitable programming for your loved one, keeping them entertained and watching what they enjoy with minimal effort.

Why We Built It

Navigating various channels can be challenging for older loved ones. We created a simple way to help caregivers guide them through the hundreds of options available on Pluto TV, making it easier to find content they enjoy. By simplifying the process, we hope to expose them to new and interesting topics, sparking joy and curiosity along the way.

Important Setup Steps

Ensure Pluto TV is enabled for your loved one:

  • Enable Pluto TV App: Make sure the Pluto TV App is enabled in the settings to use this feature.
  • Return to TV App: Enable this setting to resume programming on Pluto TV automatically after any ONSCREEN activity.

Effortlessly Navigate Channels

With TV Control, switching channels is straightforward. Here’s how you can get started:

  1. Access the Channel Selector: On the Caregiver main screen, press the Control TV button to open the TV Remote Control interface featuring the new Channel Selector.
  2. Choose a Category: Use the Select a Category dropdown to explore different content types, such as "Classic TV" or "All" to view everything Pluto TV offers.
  3. Select a Channel: Pick a channel from the Select a Channel dropdown.
  4. Change the Channel: Press the Select Channel button to tune in. You'll receive a thumbs-up confirmation when the change is successful!

Tips for an Optimal Experience

  • Loading Time: The Channel Selector may take a few moments to load all the available channels initially. Please be patient.
  • Categories for Easy Browsing: Use the categories to quickly navigate to news, family movies, or classic shows.
  • Confirmation Message: After changing channels, you'll see a thumbs-up confirmation for a smooth experience.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Channel Not Changing? Ensure the ONSCREEN device is properly connected and the TV is on. Verify that the HDMI CEC feature is enabled on the TV.
  • Issues Loading Channels? Restart the app and check for a stable internet connection.
